Friday Five- Stolen from Brondu!

Friday Five!

1) If time and money were not an issue, where would you go, for how long, and why?

I would go to Japan, France, Australia, Egypt, and Greece. (Yes, I have a lot of places that I want to see.) I would love to stay in Japan for a year to experience the culture and sites while learning the language. In France, I'd practice my semi-fluency while touring Medieval castles and Cathar country on foot. So, 6 months. (Yay hiking!)  I would have to see Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. 1 month.  I'd even go snorkeling in not-so-sharky waters. Egypt and Greece would be my total archeology geek-out trips- I could stay 3 months each.

2) What do you love about travelling?

Tasting new food, experiencing different cultures, buying great souvenirs, taking pictures... gah- everything!

3) What do you not love about travelling?

Culture shock (full impact at 2ish months, trust me) and flying to all these destinations. It'd take a week of flying, I swear. Feeling like a big, fat, loud-mouthed American...

4) Out of all the places you've been, what are your top travel destinations? Why?

France and Scotland. I've been to France on two occasions and saw a lot of things. My favorite part of France so far is Bretagne/Brittany. It's gorgeous and rather odd due to its Celtic heritage. Fascinating.  Oh, and Scotland for its Celtic-ness. Scotland was just absolutely breathtaking. It's my dream to climb Ben Nevis and wander through the isles. I'm such a prehistoric archaeology nut.... it's just like academic orgasm.

5) Where have you been that you would caution other people to avoid? Why?

Paris. It's smelly and crazy. The people are generally very rude, even the British folk who travel there for work. A lot of them speak English and use it to tell you to "F off!"

I loved la Cathedrale de Notre Dame de Paris, the Louvre, l'arc de Triomphe, and a few other landmarks, but what a city!

Oh, and I'm amidst piles of boxes and general chaos. I've been packing up the kitchen for most of the morning and I'm almost done there. Things are coming together, but my day isn't over yet

Bad news- I may not have Internet for a few days once I reach Portland. Our cable company is apparently very busy for the weekend/holiday and afterwards. *sigh* Oh well. Anyone that cares can call my cell anyways.

Off to run some errands and get back to packing.
