*sniffle*

Ugh, I got a cold. I slept most of yesterday, and I'm hoping that I'll be back up to speed tomorrow, because I have work to do.

I went to Costco for groceries today, and I barel survived. I feel yucky. However, I wanted to make an odd comment: I consciously try to make the Vancouver snobs like me.  It's pathetic, but today, I was out in my car with Oregon license plates, and a couple with their nice car waited for me while I loaded the car. I figured that I could give them the rest of my meter for the spot, since there was over an hour left. The parking company makes a kiling there. So, I gave it to them... in hopes that maybe that small bit of karma will make them think twice about bad-mouthing Americans.

The anti-U.S. sentiment in Vancouver and possibly in the rest of Canada makes me feel nearly like I'm in France. That was also highly alienating. Apparently, I am just an extension of George W. wherever I go, even though I'm what right-wing Americans call a  "Flaming Liberal". I love having it both ways! :D (/sarcasm)

Anyways...

Yeah, unfortunately there's a lot of anti-American sentiment with most Canadians nowadays, because we feel like our best bud just slept with our fiancee, yanno?

I'm not anti-American-person, I'm anti-American-gov't. Because it's run by assholes.

But you'll find alot of people in the service industries aren't anti-American – they like the tips. ;) (Remember the difference between a Canadian and a canoe: a canoe can tip.)

But hey – at least you're not related to Dubya! It's not something I spread around, but when I get flak for being American (at least part) I say “Well you can STFU NOOB because I'm related to the idiot and I voted for Kerry.”

I think what bothers me the most about Canada right now though is the anti-American sentiment + embracing of the American Sickness, as I dub it. Don't get me wrong – plenty of good things with America. But plenty of bad things too, and Canadians seem to lack any sort of discrimination in embracing American culture. Canadian culture is slowly being subsumed by American culture, and it sickens/saddens me – the fact that Canada doesn't have enough of a spine to be more than America's Northern Neighbor.  Granted, it's not as bad in PR – in fact it's worse closer to the border – but there are just so many things that make me want to puke it's not even funny.

Anyway, I'll never see you as an extension of Dubya, so no worries there. ;)

Well, I'm *certainly* not a supporter of the current government, but that's hard to explain in a brief exchange that already isn't going my way. ;)

I have tried to keep a good attitude about Canada, but it's tough when you live in Kitsilano, where everything's expensive and people drive their SUVs like they own the road.  :(

Thanks for not seeing me as devil-spawn. ;D

Should just get one of those Good Bush/Bad Bush t-shirts. ;) Says it all for you.

Oh, ye gawds, Kits. I used to want to live there, back when it was cool. But all the new-age healthy living stuff went pretentious, and now it's just like any other hippyville – a yuppyville. /sigh.

Well, you are an anthropologist, so I'm biased in liking you. ;)
